hitting the road

My adventures in Australia have started,
on the weekend I went with my new mum to a SCQuilters (Southern Cross Quilters) get together and had lots of laughs,

here I am helping Margaret do her Hardanger

Do you think they'll see me hiding here, mum's off to work at the Australian Quilt Convention in Melbourne in the morning and I think it'll be a fun place to explore

a few people have made suggestions for my new name, I'm considering, Freida or Wilma but I'm still leaning towards Gladys, the name that I traveled to Australia under,
what do you think????????

Scaterdays S

This weeks Scaterdays is the letter "S" and the categories are - Fruit, Things that make you itch and Gold

so of course we have a bowl of yummy Strawberries

the only thing I could think of that makes you itch was a Sandfly but luckily or unluckily one didn't come my way this week, so while watching the cricket on Friday night I was getting annoyed with my Warne'e doll as he mumbles and very hard to understand which is unusual because I understand mumble very well having 2 teenage sons, so technically he doesn't make me itch BUT he was getting under my skin - so have I put enough "Spin" on that to fit in the categorie..........

For Gold I came up with 2, Sparkley Shiney Gold Angelina fibes

and Tim popped this Gold Super juice in the shopping trolley

isn't she cute

look at this face, isn't she gorgeous, this is Precilla Queen of the Desert, most people have a dog or cat come to greet them but my friend Theron, who I spent a weekend with just recently has Precilla and 2 ponies come bounding up to the fence when she drives in, she rents a little house on a 22 acre property with the owners house just nearby, it was so peaceful.

isn't she cute

I've bought myself a new camera so I can finally take some decent close up photos

an addition to the family

I had a new little friend come to live with me today, she'd packed her bag and left her home in Texas last week and traveled all the way to Australia alone to see the sights.
In her bag she had a passport, some money and a travel flyer for Australia.

So now I'll let her settle in and see what sort of personality she has, to see what to call her because unfortunately she was traveling on a false passport.
Any suggestions?

I took her around the yard and introduced her to a few of the frogs that hang around our yard, here she was getting to know Spike that hangs out with the elephant on the back verandah.

and here she is perched on the side of the largest frog pond looking for any cousins but she should know they only come out at night but I think she was only humouring me for the photo.

The only thing that worried me is I think she may have a drinking problem - as she came with her own shot glass - hope she's not going to lead me astray.......

Back to Art School

Well this week sees me back at Art School and back into the swing of it and allowing myself time to play and get dirty.
At the moment I'm doing Sculpture a half day on Tuesday and all day Wednesday, so I can really get stuck into it as I really love working with found objects and other peoples junk........
So Tuesday was just getting the feel of it all again so I rummaged in the scrap box and found these great wood circles and some other bits and just started playing

Yesterday saw me get stuck into something I've had in the thought process since last year, and after being shown how to use the band saw I got stuck into slicing up turned chair legs that I'd rescued off a roadside clean up before xmas

So - watch this space

Scatterdays I

I still seem to be a step behind myself but hopefully after this week and I go back to TAFE (art school) I can get back into a routine again, I seem to have flounded over the holidays and couldn't get organised.
So here are this weeks Scatterdays, brought to you by the letter I, categories, Yellow, Australian, Something you would find in the Air.

So here is the yellow Ink cartridge THAT RAN OUT yesterday morning while doing some last minute photocopying before I ran off to teach a class

Something Australian, what could be more Australian that a country road heading up into the hills aka the "Illawarra Highway heading toward the Illawarra escarpment" how Orstaaalian is that, a drive in the country......

and for something you would find in the air, an IMPENDING STORM and haven't we had a few of these lately, this was Saturday a week ago, looking out of The Quilters Garden while working there

Scatterdays Z

Sorry I've been away for a while, fell of my perch for a bit but hopefully I'm back on track now,
missed last weeks Scatterdays but discovered after I'd read some posts that I'd written down the wrong letter anyway and I'd actually bought a couple of tops from a South American shop last weekend while I was away to, and I was trying to work out how to describe them starting with the letter O......duhhhhh

Anyway Z was easy for me this week as we have the big "Z" - Zelda Warrior Dog and here she is asleep under the table punching out zzzzzzzzzzzz's

This is Ziggy our Zygo Cactus, the inpiration for a lot of my quilts

I was waiting for the jug to boil and turned around and this jumped out at me from the spice rack and I didn't even go looking for it

I was about to go out the back to my shed and take 2 other photos but the sky just opened up, they were to be a bag full of Zips and the Zig Zag stitch on the machine.
I was also trying to think if there were any Zebra Crossing lines leading up to a cross walk near by but they don't seam to use them as much these days - which makes me wonder, why were cross walks called Zebra Crossing anyway?
