A Valuable Lesson
On Saturday I got stuck in and made a batch of silk paper as I wanted to make some bowls to send to my niece as her new shop "Blue Attic" opens on Sept 1st and also I needed a piece for a class sample to be put in a frame, so I set up my production line and got stuck in, I make 4 pieces at a time and made two batches.
When I brought them in and peeled the tuel off I discovered that 2 pieces weren't quiet dry so I thought I'd see if a quick zap in the microwave would help, well people dye and stuff in the microwave so why not a quick zap, well I learnt a very valuable lesson - if you have Angelina fibre in your silk paper - DON'T PUT IT IN THE MICROWAVE, let me just say there were flames, luckily I was ready and stopped it after 3 secs and no damage was sustained by the microwave.
So here are the pieces that I made for the bowls, not the best of photos but the batteries died as I took these 2 so wasn't able to take more as I had to get stuck into making the bowls.
This is the piece that I tried to destroy, it doesn't really show up but in the lower half it has fine brown burn lines running across it, I new not to put the metallic Angelina in the microwave but I thought the others would have been OK.
One wonders what this stuff is really made of????????

what flower are you?
I found this on another blog and thought I'd have a go and see what I am......hmmmmm - what are you?
it said "Mischief is your middle name, but your first is friend. You are quiet the prankster that loves to make other people laugh"
Life has been a little hectic of late, had a magazine deadline then I hurt my back and had to lay low this week, didn't even go to school but I'm slowly getting back on track finishing off some bags and scarves while I've been resting my back and I've just made a batch of silk paper to make bowls to send down to my niece for her new shop "Blue Attic" opening at the end of the week.
The silk pieces should be dry now so better get back to it, I've had a break and a cuppa, so hopefully I'll have some goodies to show over the next couple of days.

My birthday week
Well I've had a busy few days, my birthday was on Saturday and my father in law Terry's birthday is the day before mine so we always have a joint cake, my sister in law came down to stay for a few days for the birthdays as the in-laws live with us, she cooked dinner and a cake which she decorated with violets from our garden.
Saturday I had to work but if your going to have to work on your birthday what better place to work but in a quilt shop with a class going on full of friends and they bought me a cake.
Sunday Nic and I went off for our painting day at the Tullumbah Inn, lovely morning sitting in the sun painting, it was just a touch windy but we coped, the paintings were then hung in the restaurant for the month where we then all had a fab lunch.
This is my painting, I laid down textured papers with PVA glue before I started painting then added more papers after and some twigs and bark from the surrounds, unfortunately the glue hadn't dried when I took the photo but when I get it back I'll take another photo as it was also hung up high and me being height challenged couldn't get a good photo of it.
This is the painting of the Inn that was voted the winner of the day and I bought it for my birthday, well Tim you are always away for my birthday and gee you always buy me great presents - then I tell you about them later.........

great texture
well I'm back from working at the Quilt Show in Melbourne, it was great fun, very busy but fun and I've come home very exhausted.
I was very restrained and didn't buy much just some silk and wool tops and cocoons from the stand I work on also a set of Shiva sticks and a set of rubbing plates so I'm ready to experiment.
Last week we went on a field trip to Wollongong boat harbour with our general drawing class and Nic and I had a little time up our sleeve before the teacher arrived so we took some photos while we waited, these are some shots of a fab old building on the waters edge.
