DUQ 2008 Calendar

The Down Under Quilts 2008 Calendar has been launched with my winning quilt on the cover but no matter how much I fiddle around I can't work out how to get the photo from the email from Erica (the editor) to my blog, so for the time being go to their blog http://down-under-quilts.blogspot.com/ and they also have a link for ordering the calendars.
I'm not sure whether I'll get the chance to solve this mystery as my schedule for the next week is very full, today I have to wash and pack for my trip down to Melbourne on Wednesday to work at the Quilt Show and tonight I teach and tomorrow I'm at Art School and tomorrow night Mackenzie has his Kung Fu class so I don't have a lot of time trying to solve this little mystery, so go to Down Under Quilts site and have a look.

Not sure if I'll get another chance to post anything so if your down in Melbourne and coming to the show come and say hello, I'll be on the Unique Stitching and Design stand selling a wonderful selection of wool and silk tops and a yummy colourful selection of all related silk products for embellishing.

Todays Sculpture class

Had a fun day in Sculpture today, the 3 hours goes by so fast.

We are still working with found objects and the resources that are around the school are amazing, our relief teacher Jenny was cutting up all this wood for us and then we see her walking through the studio with a plank under her arm heading to the saw, somebody was able to acquire the planks from the old Port Kembla Pier, it is a piece of this divine old wood that is my base and it still had some of the old nails in it.

Most of these pieces were from our jaunt to the reverse garbage a few weeks ago, the cork, nut and plastic beetle I picked up in the car park on my way back from morning break in the canteen.

Silk paper

I've been trying to make a few pieces of silk paper for a few days now and I finally got around to it on Friday.
I started cutting them up yesterday along with the 2 pieces of faux felt that I made recently to put them into a new class sample, it will be a 2 day class, first day making the silk paper and faux felt pieces then the second day putting them together, so I hope it works as I imagine.

My husband Tim flew out yesterday heading for Europe, this is a short tour about 4-5 weeks and they will be based in Belgium, so if any of you are in the vicinity and want to see a great show check out their website www.leapingloonies.com.au and see where they're at, or just check out to see what'll be happening in Aus when they return.

A lazy lunch

with the kidlets home on holidays I either have to fight for time on MY computer or wait for a window of opportunity in between raids on World of Warcraft and I have 20 mins before Mackenzie's next raid.

I've been busy over the past few days and haven't had the chance to write.
Saturday I worked at the shop and had a great day as Nic Bridges was teaching a class and yesterday I was whisked away by my good friend Tony and headed down to Berry for a birthday lunch for our friend Kerry.
In between I've been writing up notes for a magazine project and I'm just about to make a batch of silk paper.

from L-R Tony, Brenda, who had flown in from Ayres Rock with family for the birthday, and Kerry - the birthday boy talking to his youngest Libby, don't you just love his mustache.

Tony had the biggest wedge (it was too big to be a piece) of Lemon Meringue pie with the biggest strawberry that he is in the process of demolishing.

New toy

I picked up my new toy today - a Janome Expression Machine and boy have I had fun.
On the way home I stopped at the local Op Shop and picked up this organza scarf for $2 and away I went - what do you think?

It's amazing how inspired one can be when selling all of these wonderful fibres and stuff for embellishing for 5 days at the show, I haven't stopped since I got back.

Busy Fingers

My fingers have been busy and I've finished another one of my (not very practical) curly scarves with some of the new wools that I bought at the show.

I've also been making some faux felt pieces, the pink one is wool tops with some pink nobly yarn and Angelina.

The purple piece is wool tops with Textiva bits.

When this wild weather calms down I'll make some silk paper then incorporate it with these pieces into a new class sample.

Green Scarves

We're having violent winds at the moment so hopefully we won't loose power before I post this.

I'm back and sort of recovered from my time up in Sydney working at the Quilt Show at Darling Harbour.
I work on a stand called Unique Stitching and Design that sells wool & silk tops, throwsters waste, cocoon's and all sorts of fun stuff for embellishing art quilts and I had a ball and came home with an armful of goodies.
I love working these shows as I'm able to catch up with lots of people that I don't get to see very often - I start talking at 9am on Wednesday and don't shut up till Sunday night and I still have a bit of a husky voice.

I also bought way to much wool and I've already started to use it up.

The first photo is a one ball scarf/shawl that I whipped up the other night on jumbo needles, these were a bit of a challenge to get use to.

Yesterday I had fun with wool & silk tops and a bag of threads and made this scarf, I decided that I needed to make a few things from the products that we sell on the stand to wear at future shows.

Here's a close up.

I also bought myself a special present - but more about that another time.......
